A picture of today’s power generation sector is an industry where outages need to be reduced, where increasingly stringent legislative targets must be met and where greater levels of renewables have to be integrated. This includes the recent update to the EU’s energy targets, which include a 20% cut in greenhouse gas emissions, a 20% share for renewable energy and a 20% improvement in energy efficiency, all by 2020.

A 2030 climate and energy framework then calls for even more action in the following decade, reducing greenhouse gases by 40%, creating a 27% share for renewables and achieving at least a 20% improvement in energy efficiency compared to those of 1990.

Effective control and automation holds the key to addressing these and other challenges within the power generation industry, and Mitsubishi Electric offers comprehensive solutions for the whole sector. That includes customers who are managing existing plants, constructing a new plant, upgrading an existing plant, or working to integrate and balance a number of different energy sources.

With an unrivalled portfolio of proven and reliable technologies, Mitsubishi Electric offers solutions from individual automation and electrical products right up complete plant control systems, with EIC accredited installation capabilities.

Proven in power generation facilities across the world, and built on decades of world class R&D and unrivalled solutions development, the Mitsubishi Electric name is trusted to deliver. The highest levels of reliability, efficiency, safety and predictability, plus maximising asset availability while minimising waste are the targets.

In this way Mitsubishi Electric is able to meet the needs of plant owners, maintenance providers or EPC suppliers for new plants. Mitsubishi Electric solutions cover everything from MV (Medium Voltage) inverters and switchgear, to power plant automation and control solutions for new build and retrofit projects, to turbine control systems, to a full virtual power plant control solution.

All of which will be represented on the company stand 3HG39 at POWER-GEN Europe 2016 exhibition in Milan, Italy from 21st – 23rd June.

Solutions for the Power Industry:

PMSX®pro is Mitsubishi Electric’s Plant Automation and control solution for the power generation industry, meeting the needs of both new build and retrofit projects. PMSX®pro is built on Mitsubishi Electric’s market leading expertise in and experience with PLCs and distributed control systems.

Mitsubishi Electric MV inverters and switchgears are designed to offer highly reliable and efficient industrial MV panel/cabinet solutions to the power industry, bringing unrivalled levels of efficiency and innovation to the power market from the bottom up. The full range of Mitsubishi Electric switchgear will be demonstrated on the company’s stand for the first time at POWER-GEN Europe.

For operators of steam turbines, Mitsubishi Electric has developed the Turbiset control, protection and simulation system, developed to provide a simple upgrade path for Turbines that may already have been in operation for a decade or more and which could have an expected life of some 15-20 years to come. At any point in the turbine’s life, operators can update the control system to current standards, delivering improved efficiency and reliability.

Finally, highlighting its ability to meet the needs of operators to integrate and balance a range of different power sources into a large site or the grid, Mitsubishi Electric will be demonstrating its VPP (Virtual Power Plant) on its stand at POWER-GEN Europe.

Addressing the impact of the introduction of renewables, the ageing of large power plants, and the instability of oil and gas prices, VPP provides an effective system which is able to balance numerous variables in order to achieve an overall more predictable and stable supply system with the least possible cost of power generation. Mitsubishi Electric will have a working, interactive VPP running on its stand, highlighting how this ‘futuristic’ technology can actually meet industry requirements today.
